Westchester Chordsmen
History

The Westchester Chordsmen are the heart of the Westchester County, NY Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The group was founded and chartered in June of 1953 according to the above documents. Through these many years, the chorus has been a major entertainment organization for the area just north of New York City. The chorus is called upon frequently by governmental and charitable organizations to support major activities in the area. In addition, the chorus has done hundreds of performances throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Not satisfied with geographic limitations, the Chorus is also dedicated to spreading barbershop harmony around the world. In 1991, the chorus traveled to England, singing at several concerts in conjunction with three Barbershop clubs there: Plymouth, Crawley, and Bournemouth, In the summer of 1995, the chorus traveled to Xian and Beijing, China, singing barbershop harmony and a number of songs in Chinese. At Christmas, 1995, the chorus sang at the White House. In the summer of 1999, a group of the Westchester Chordsmen participated in the first Barbershop Harmony Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. Most recently, in the summer of 2000, the Westchester Chordsmen traveled to central Italy, just east of Rome, for a two week long Italian-American Harmony Festival. Further International adventures are planned.

Over the years, the chorus has repeatedly achieved the Championship of the Northern Division of the Mid-Atlantic District. Currently, the Westchester Chordsmen are ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic District, which has about 100 Chapters. The Westchester Chordsmen are also proud to offer their latest CD recordings "Encore!" and an earlier CD "Sing, Sing, Sing".
